The Sisters Sewing Project began 15 years ago when retired dressmaker Premi Roopanand moved to Kelvin with the idea of sharing her sewing knowledge with those around her.
On August 16, more than 20 women displayed their dresses and graduation gowns at the Wendywood Clinic to receive their completion certificates for the programme.
Roopanand said, “For the student to truly master a skill, they need to maintain discipline, patience, commitment, and, of course, be willing to start, and all the ladies here in white dresses have really proved to be good and have indeed mastered the skill of dressmaking and designing.”
She added that the students are happy today to see their work flourishing, and she made the graduation ceremony special by allowing the students to sew the dresses and gowns that they are wearing.
