As part of the Crawford International Sandton School, the Grade 000 learners experienced the Unit of Inquiry: ‘Sharing the Planet’.
According to the school’s project coordinator, Nadia Cooke, the learners explored the relationship between people and animals in different contexts.
“The learners walked into their classrooms and saw A3 printed papers with animal prints on them. They then had to match the animal figurine to the correct animal skin pattern.”
She added that through books, pictures, and toy animals, the learners learnt the difference between stripes and spots and which animals have them.
“For spots, we learnt about circles and practised fine motor skills. For the stripes, we explored the textures of tape and paint and saw the results of cause and effect when our stripes were revealed.”
Cooke explained that they then had a discussion about animal homes, and the learners had to sort animals according to their correct habitats, such as wild animals, farm animals, insects, and sea creatures.
“It was nice to witness Grade 000 learners enjoying their class and learning more about the relationships between animals and people.”
