#RandWaterShutdown | Sandton residents have their say on the ongoing water shutdown

People share their views about the ongoing Rand Water shutdown.

With the ongoing Rand Water shutdown, Sandton Chronicle took to its streets to ask residents how they feel about the ongoing water issue and if they think what Rand Water is doing is necessary.

Here is what they have to say:

Chuma Matsoso: This is a frustration; water is life and right now I feel like everything is stuck in one place. We can not do anything especially here at work. What is happening is unfair, we depend on water because it is our need. Rand Water must distribute tanks all over so that people can benefit.

Mohale Rhyder: Water is life. I think we will have a huge problem because even now at work we do not have water. It is not easy to use bathrooms because the smell is very bad, we are only allowed to pee and I cannot imagine people who live in informal settlements during this time. I think Rand Water better speed up the process because people might lose their lives.

Penane Maloane: I think what is happening now is not fair. Many people are now suffering because of what Rand Water is doing. Some people come from disadvantaged backgrounds and cannot afford to buy water daily, especially now during the month. Rand Water must at least distribute Jojo tanks to help those in need.

Pearl Dube: Water is life. I can not imagine myself going days without water. I think what Rand Water is doing is fair but to some people it is not. We all depend to water to survive. The government must do something about this.

Samuel Maboa: I think what's happening now is not fair to the majority of us. We need water to survive, and many people depend on it to run their days. Some old people need water and right now it might be difficult for them to survive. Big tanks must be distributed to help the needy.

Wire Masuma: What Rand Water is doing is fair, just that us people who are not educated enough about all this maintenance, we won't understand. Even though water is life, we deserve clean and purified water because if they do not do this maintenance now, in the future it will cause problems in our lives.

Ethan Phillips: Water is life, many people depend on water, especially those who run fast-food restaurants. They help us by cooking food and what is happening now is not fair to them and us because we cannot always have money to buy water from these shops. I think Rand Water must do something or rather speed up the process.

Banele Khumalo: It is going to be difficult for me as a learner. I have to worry about where I will find water in the morning to bathe, I can not go to school without bathing, and this is causing a lot of stress. Some people cannot afford to buy water on a daily basis.

Musa Khoza: We can not operate like we used to, I am worried that we are going to lose profit at our car wash because we are running out of water. We do business and I do not think the people from government offices know that this is how we make a living. Imagine now we have to lose profit because of this Rand Water shutdown. These people are not fair.
