South Africa showcased one of the largest Africa Yoga celebrations

The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across the world annually on June 21 since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.

The Consulate General of India, Johannesburg, hosted a celebration of the International Day of Yoga at Wanderers Stadium on June 24.

This momentous event marked Consul General Mahesh Kumar’s inaugural initiative in South Africa and was one of the biggest yoga gatherings in the world.

This event displayed the country’s dedication to fostering a multicultural environment and promoting holistic well-being among its citizens.

People from all walks of life and different parts of the world came and celebrated the ancient practice of yoga.

Under the esteemed patronage of the Consulate General of India and in association with various socio-cultural associations, yoga schools and institutions, this grand-scale event in South Africa had more than 4 000 participants.

The main activities were yoga sessions, workshops, demonstrations, and discussions, as the day was dedicated to promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and stress reduction through the practice of yoga.

Kumar expressed his excitement about the event, saying, “We are thrilled to host the International Day of Yoga in South Africa on such a grand scale. This event serves as a platform for people from diverse backgrounds to come together and experience the transformative power of yoga. Through this inaugural event, we aim to create an inclusive and culturally enriching environment that celebrates the essence of unity and well-being.”
