Residents of Bramley North are furious over poor service delivery

Potholes and uncut grass, the top of the complaint list at Bramley North.

Bramley Park residents are beyond frustrated. This comes after a year since they laid a complaint to Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) and City Parks about potholes and uncut grass near Boero Road.

Residents say the issue is getting worse and JRA is not doing enough to fix the roads. They have claimed worsening potholes on the streets have been damaging their vehicles.

“I witnessed an accident next to Bramley Pick n Pay. We have on several occasions invited our ward councillor to neighbourhood meetings as well as to join our Whatsapp group, both with no response. He adds no value because nobody can ask any questions or raise matters,” said Nishani Govender, a Bramley Park resident.

According to Bramley North Ward 91 councillor, Andrew Stewart, JRA has been a poor performer for a long time with potholes, sometimes taking over a year to be repaired after reporting. “City Parks is well aware of the Boreo Road situation. Veldt grass is cut in line with City Parks policy – they burn it once per year.
“Over the years they have missed a cutting cycle. I think the main issue is that residents want City Parks to cut more regularly, which it is unable to do. Long grass is often seen as a potential hiding spot for criminals which is why some residents want grass and shrubs to be removed or cut as often as possible.”

One community member, Altaae Adams, said the overgrown grass has played a role in criminal activities, and the community has been begging City Parks to cut the grass up until they did it themselves.

According to Johannesburg Road Agency spokesperson, Mosa Makhalima, JRA is aware of the potholes in Bramley. At this moment there is a backlog of potholes and the depo is working to resolve all the issues. Ref number 4098325 is a reinstatement, this issue along with potholes is scheduled for repairs over the first two weeks in July.
