Michael Mount allows its learners to showcase their acting skills at a school theatre performance.

For the Michael Mount Waldorf School Grade 8 classes, June 1–3 was one of their busiest days since the beginning of the term.

Grade 8 students presented their musical production of The Circle of Life, which they spent a lot of time preparing for.

The performances were with their class teacher, along with support from the school’s music and drama teachers and some of the dedicated parents, who assisted in building the set, makeup and costume design, directing, and catering.

This was the first official performance in the school’s newly renovated auditorium and a festive re-opening of the space.

Christina Seuffert, the marketing and communications director at the school, said, “All the dedication, care, and enthusiasm certainly paid off; it was an uplifting and entertaining performance for all in the school’s greater community.”

Seuffert highlighted that they were also delighted to welcome visitors from their sister Waldorf schools and Summerfield Park Retirement Village who attended the play’s final dress rehearsal and thanked their outreach team for the funds they managed to raise, which contributed to the transport and catering required.

“In Waldorf education, the Grade 8 play presents the opportunity for the unique growth and development of each student as they undergo the transition from primary school to high school.” As their class teacher, it has been an incredible experience to observe how this process has enriched each student differently,” Laura Smit, Grade 8A class teacher, said.

Smit emphasised that many of the learners are filled with a new, mature sense of confidence, which shines through while they are on stage. Collaborating on this play was one of the most unforgettable journeys for their class and is something that each of her learners will remember for a lifetime.
