Crawford International Sandton Preparatory learners visit Maropeng

Learners from Sandton embarked on a captivating excursion to Maropeng.

As part of Crawford International Sandton Preparatory’s immersive experience during its transdisciplinary unit, ‘Where We Are in Place and Time,’ inquisitive Grade 5 learners embarked on a captivating excursion to Maropeng.

This educational visit aimed at deepening their understanding of the migration of early humans, tracing it back to the first hominids and connecting it to the migration patterns of the early San people. Throughout their learning experiences, they actively participated in various activities designed to unravel the mysteries of animal and human migration.

Benjamin Pool, Ye Sheng Sun, Umar Moideen, Zondwa Mjongile, and Raphael Toku-Appiah enjoy their visit.

With a global lens on migration, the children explored New York’s remarkable and eye-opening Ellis Island migration system using an online virtual platform. This experience allowed them to empathize with the life-changing experiences of immigrants in the past.

Learners used this as a stepping stone to conduct research in life sciences. They explored migration in different ecosystems and with other living things. They grappled with studying migratory animals, broadening their knowledge of the interconnectedness of life on Earth.
