Rivonia parents are dissatisfied with Joburg Water

A total disruption to the school’s drop-off zone due to a reinstatement left unattended by JW.

Concerned Rivonia Primary School parents said they have been chasing the Joburg Water (JW) ‘ghost’ for the past few weeks regarding a reinstatement that needed the utility’s attention.

According to Shayne Griffin, the school’s admissions officer, they have been trying to contact JW to come and do a backfill in front of the school gate.

“It was originally a burst water pipe, which was reported on April 4 and was only repaired on April 28, and JW has not come back to do a backfill,” she said.
Sue Kearns, a parent volunteer as a traffic controller outside the school said, “Our job is to ensure a smooth and safe flow of traffic in and out of the school drive-through drop-off zone.”

Kearns added the reinstatement had seriously hampered their ability to manage the traffic flow safely and efficiently, as it took up parking space.

“Rivonia Boulevard is usually backed up to the robot every morning due to these disruptions. Parking is at a premium any day of the week, and a muddy hole in the driveway of our school is also unsightly and dangerous.”

Lisa Small expressed her unhappiness as a parent.

“It is irritating that an entire parking space is taken up by the hole in the road where the road is not restored, and it has affected the parents a lot and has led to less parking for parents to use when collecting the children.”

The Sandton Chronicle contacted Joburg Water on May 16 to inquire when the reinstatement would be attended to and why it had taken them so long.
The deadline the publication gave JW to respond was May 18 and on that day, the Chronicle received an email from the spokesperson of JW Nolwazi Dhlamini. The spokesperson said the inquiry was sent to the relevant department for feedback and this would take more than 48 hours.
The Chronicle followed up on May 19 but did not receive any response by the time of going to print.
