Buccleuch residents were hit hard by power outages

Buccleuch residents deals with multiple days with no power for the past two weeks.

Furious community members in Buccleuch voiced how bad it was when they did not have power.

Sasha Richards and Seshma Bhoopal are two community members who were particularly impacted by this problem.

The power outage had a negative impact on them, as they depend on electricity to have a comfortable life.

Sasha Richards is a 33-year-old lady who is disabled and requires machine warmth for her leg to relieve pain.

She explained that the power outage affected her as she couldn’t do anything.

“I am a children’s book illustrator, who works from home, and not having power for days has made me lose much time on work, but the awful part is that I could not wash dishes, bath, or even do laundry as I am required not to use cold water.”

Richards added that she was in pain as she didn’t use her warmer for days.

Seshma Bhoopal, the mother of a child with a cardiac condition, who’s on 24-hour oxygen support, pointed out that it was hard for her to keep her son Ayaan Bhoopal’s oxygen machine charged.

“I have tried very hard to make plans to sort out portable oxygen machines and tanks for load-shedding, and no electricity means changing machines and cannulas throughout the night and staying awake to monitor my child’s breathing. Not having enough sleep took a toll on me and my son.”

Ayaan Bhoopal uses his battery-operated oxygen machine.

She elaborates that since the issue started, she would run around at odd hours to different places to get the portable oxygen charged and available for use.

“The stress of this was enormous for a child with medical needs; he fought hard to survive his 13 years, and most of his medication needed to be in the fridge with no electricity for days. Everything is now of no use.”
