Motorists voice their thoughts about the new traffic lights initiatives in Sandton

Investec generators will power two critical intersections in Sandton during load-shedding, ensuring continuous operation of the traffic lights and alleviating congestion.

ISSAC DAMBA: It is a good thing. As an everyday driver, I have seen multiple accidents caused by robots not working. This will be a good thing for all of us, as it will reduce accidents and minimise congestion in Sandton during the early hours of the day and late hours when people are going home.

The Sandton Chronicle attended a launch on May 3 about the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and the Sandton Central Management District leading a new initiative that will see traffic lights at major intersections in Sandton Central operate throughout load-shedding utilising generator power sourced from adjacent building owners.

THAPELO NDLOVU: As an Uber driver, I have spent extra minutes during my rides waiting in traffic, and this has affected our customers because sometimes we take long for pickups and drop-offs, the client gets late, and extra money is to be paid. This is a brilliant idea, and I hope they can do it in all the central places.

The Chronicle asked the motorist if they thought this initiative is a good idea for them.
