Lost Roxy returns home after four months

Cecilia Amene said that she adopted another dog in January just to console herself because she could not get over Roxy

Cecilia Amene was overcome with tears of joy when she was re-united with her dog Roxy after four devastating months apart.

Amene said that she could not believe that her dog had finally been found when she received a call from the Randburg SPCA on April 3.

“I was so shocked. I could not believe it. When I went to the kennels to pick her up you could see the excitement in her. She was waging her tail, she wanted to come out and jump on me. Even on our ride home, it was the most beautiful ride she was just sitting looking out the window. I can’t even explain it, it was just a beautiful experience.”

She added that Roxy has lost a lot of weight but was so excited when they arrived home, she ran around the garden.

Roxy was lost early in December 2022 when she went out the gate.

“I looked for her on lost and found pets on socials platforms, but I could not find her. I called Beagle in Fairlands and the RSPCA but they did not have her.”

She said that Roxy was micro-chipped and Amene never lost hope that she’d find her dog. She kept visiting the SPCA, posted on socials and WhatsApp groups asking neighbours to help.

This story’s happy ending caused kennel manager at the SPCA Randburg Cynthia Swanepoel to encourage people to bring lost animals to the organisation. Swanepoel said, “Do not keep animals when they don’t belong to you. People must bring in stray animals to the SPCA. We get so many lost reports that it would be amazing to reunite lost.”
