Representing Brescia house school and team with pride

Aarya Sunker is grateful for the opportunity she has just received to play tennis at a high level.

For Brescia House School, 12-year-old Aarya Sunker flys the school tennis flag high.

She discovered her talent and love for tennis at the age of eight when she accompanied her cousin to his tennis lessons.

Today, the seventh grader is proud to have ticked off one of her tennis dreams of becoming a part of the South Africa Schools Tennis Team (SASTT).

“I am very proud to have achieved getting onto the SASTT, grateful and excited for the experiences that lie ahead.”

Aarya highlights that she has worked hard to improve her skills and abilities on the court and being selected to join the team is a recognition of that hard work and dedication and it gives her a chance to compete at a higher level.

“The level of tennis in South Africa is very high but we do not often get the opportunity to play with competitors from other countries. This is a great opportunity to get exposure to the sport and how it is played outside of South Africa.”

She says she is honored to wear the South African colours and is looking forward to giving her best effort and making my team, my school and my country proud.

Aarya tells the Chronicle that tennis is a demanding sport and it is not easy to excel without having a good support structure.

Aarya Sunker is grateful for the SASTT opportunity.

She thanks her teachers, who have been incredibly supportive of her tennis aspirations, accommodated her schedule and offered extra assistance with schoolwork when needed.

“I am so grateful for that and would like to thank them for that.”

Aarya explains that tennis has taught her discipline, perseverance and teamwork, which are valuable skills and for now, she is excited to see where her tennis journey takes her.
