Varsity College first-year enjoy the social week

Social committee focus week is a week where new students integrate into tertiary social life and it sheds light on what students can expect from the social committee on campus.

First-year IIE Varsity College Sandton students received a warm welcome during the social and sports week held on campus.

The sports and social heads of the respective committees organised and curated a series of events that showcased the committees and got sign-ups for the various clubs on campus.

These clubs include football, netball, hockey, eSports, action cricket, golf, chess, cheerleading team, and cultural society.

Some highlights from the focus week included the ‘Sip and Paint’ hosted by the social committee. Anto Kagisho, PR and events coordinator of the college, said this gave students a chance to let their creative juices splash onto the canvas boards, creating art and spending time with their peers over some mocktails.

“Students had a chance to choose between painting on a canvas board or a tote bag.”
Jennifer Blackbeard, a third-year Bachelor of Computer and Information Science in Application Development student, said she particularly enjoyed it and opted to decorate a tote bag. She looks forward to many events of this nature in the future and loved engaging with new people and other creative students.

Other events included a drum café, a social speed meet, giant board games, and, lastly, to close the week off, the cheerleading team showcased their 2022 routine for the student body.

The day was a success, with over 230 sign-ups.
