On to greater heights for the learners of Sandown High

Principal of Sandown High School, Edith Mamosebo, who started her journey with the school during lockdown finally celebrates the hard work of her staff members and Grade 12 learners of 2022 after receiving news of the pass rate improvement.

Representatives of Sandown High School were more than delighted to celebrate the achievements of their 2022 matric learners and teachers on January 27 with an award ceremony.

During the beginning phases of the event, the honoured guests were welcomed with hugs and cheers before they could make it to their table. The school which has had its fair share of challenges like all the other schools during lockdown saw a tremendous improvement in the pass rate that could not be ignored.

“Today I think that we have outdone ourselves and I am speechless. Seeing our young ones receiving their gifts and awards, and the involvement of corporate organisations supporting the event is truly wonderful. I came here back in 2021 and it was challenging to say the least because of Covid-19, but we were determined to improve the school’s pass rate,” said the principal, Edith Mamosebo.

Sandown High went from a pass rate average of 72,3% to a huge jump of 87,6% in the year 2022. Not only were the achievements of the learners recognised, but their teachers were also given their fair share of the spotlight during the course of the event.

One of the biggest highlights of the ceremony was when former chief executive of Standard Bank wealth, Peggy Sue Khumalo awarded Neo Monareng, a Sandown learner, with a one year paid plan to study in his university of choice.

Top achiever, Iminathi Mbaxa, who had a total of four distinctions shared her excitement before celebrating her hard work with her friends and family.

“I am proud of myself for making it this far. Really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for myself and for my classmates. Planning on studying accounting at Wits. To the class of ’23, work hard and set goals for yourself, it’ll all pay off in the end,” concluded Mbaxa.
