As many individuals from all over the world finally rest from the festive season, many criminals geared up to take full advantage of shopping centres and malls.
Sandton Chronicle asked shoppers, ‘Do you think that having the presence of police officials in shopping centres and malls will benefit shoppers, especially during the festive season and why?’
VICENT MILLIO: I think that visual policing definitely will reduce crime on the basis that there is what we call a deterrence security. It means that when a criminal sees an officer they get too afraid to carry out the crime activity in that area. Normally you get reports of car theft, fraud and stolen goods around the festive time so it really will be good to have more police officers keeping a watch around shopping centres to reduce those crimes.
