Perseverance and determination lands newly graduated student to Investec

IIE Varsity College graduate Reneilwe-Kutlwano Mothabi shares her long journey of studying and applying to jobs which immediately paid off after receiving her qualification.

Weeks after completing her Bachelor of Computer and Information Science qualification at IIE Varsity College based in Sandton, Reneilwe-Kutlwano Mothabi, did not hesitate to put herself out there in the professional world.

Her goal of finding the perfect job came knocking on her door in early January when she received a from one of the biggest banking companies, Investec.

“My love for technology and understanding how systems work stemmed from a young age, however, I never really took it seriously growing up, due to my true love and passion for medical school, but life had other plans for me, and I did not think I would even be in this position in my life,” said Kutlwano.

The young graduate who is now a data analyst, worked countless hours applying to numerous positions during her final year while completing a 12-week programme at Deloitte.

When asked who was her inspiration, Kutlwano responded, “my biggest motivator has been Shabhana Thaver who is the CIO for Investec Specialist Bank South Africa. She is an exceptionally talented and driven woman in the technology industry. Her drive towards empowering women in technology has been what I have been encompassing throughout my academic career along with her story on how she got into technology.”

Kutlwano concluded by sharing a few of her future plans. “I plan on completing my honours in computer science with specialisation in artificial intelligence and lastly I want to raise an awareness of the discrimination faced by females within the STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) industry.
