Crawford hosts Grade 8 fun day and welcoming

Crawford International School learners of Grade 8 unwind at school with fun activities, meals and getting to know their school traditions.

Through their successful mission of welcoming and motivating learners during their official first week, representatives of Crawford International School based in Sandton organised a fun day for the Grade 8 learners on January 13.

The day, known as ‘fun in the sun 2023’, kick-started with the Grade 8 learners writing heartfelt letters to their older versions of themselves detailing their aspirations and goals in life. As stated by the project coordinator of Crawford Nadia Cooke, the letters will be safely stored in a time capsule where learners will view them in 2027, when they reach their final year of high school.

The current Grade 12 learners’ executives led the newest editions to a war cry which ignited the school’s spirit and energy to its highest form during the day.

Mkkano Harilal, Temujin Houvet and Kamso Onyiagu compete in the tug of war challenge against their classmates.

Fun activities such as volleyball, tug of war, basketball and the flag were what kept learners occupied and entertained in their welcoming session.

“The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the two water slides that allowed the tired but happy Grade 8s and Grade 12 student executives the chance to cool off in style. The day ended with a delicious and welcome lunch courtesy of the school. With camp coming up, they are already a cohesive group ready to take on any challenges thrown at them. This unique grade is definitely one to watch out for,” said Cooke.
