19th Edition of the Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge commences

The Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge makes its return to the pitches of Mzansi.

The official build-up of the prestigious soccer tournament which has been running for close to two decades kick-started its operation on November 23 during the media launch at Workshop in Sandon.

Soccer legends Siphiwe Tshabalala, Andile Dlamini and Gavin Hunt were joined by the Senior Marketing Manager for Sponsorships Marketing at Discovery, Deon Curtis, and South African Football Association (Safa) Johannesburg President, Phil Mogodi at the venue.

“This grassroots diski tournament was established in 2002, and strategically aligns with Discovery’s core purpose of making people healthier, enhancing, and protecting their lives,” said Curtis.

According to Curtis, the tournament which will take place at Shapa Soweto is expected to have over 2800 players showcase their finest skills while aiming for the top spot to collect the trophy.

“Participating in a tournament of this nature is unquantifiable and absolutely essential to any serious footballer in my opinion. It’s an important part of a player’s journey; growing in leaps and bounds, players are more mature, skilled, motivated, and determined on the other side of this tournament,” said Mogodi.

The tournament officially started on December 1 and will reach its conclusion on December 23. Fans of football are welcome to show their support at the location said Mogodi.

Teams:

Open men’s division – 48 teams
Women’s division – 16 teams
Men U17 division – 40 teams
