Resident breaks Bryanston parkrun female record

Avid runner Cian Oldknow now holds the female record for the Bryanston parkrun with a time of 17 minutes and 20 seconds.

There is a new leader in town as resident Cian Oldknow recently broke the female record at Bryanston parkrun.

At the parkrun’s 377th event, the Bryanston resident became the new record holder, completing the 5km in a time of 00:17:20.

According to Oldknow, it was so exciting to break the record which she initially tried to have a go at three years ago.

She added that the plan for the day was to use the parkrun as a time trial and practice run for a cross-country event that she was set to take on a week later.

“So [I] went in with the record time in mind but wanted to go as fast as possible. I’m also coming back from a shoulder operation I had five months ago so I’m just really grateful to be where I am at the moment.”

The 26-year-old is an avid lover of running, she started at the age of nine and has not looked back since.

“I love competing too, I currently run for Murray and Robert’s Running Club, sponsored by Adidas. I went to my first Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) African Track and field champs earlier this year for the 10 000m and want to keep at it to see how far I can get in the future.”

Oldknow hoped to one day beat her record in the Bryanston parkrun.

“I’m going to keep training and working towards other goals and see when I can do another Bryanston parkrun a bit faster.”
