Bryanston rescue gives dogs hope

Do you have a love for furry four-legged friends? A New Hope Dog Rescue, who recently expanded to the Bryanston area, is on the hunt for volunteers.

A New Hope Dog Rescue recently expanded to the Bryanston area, looking to help more animals find a forever home.

Operating over the last five years, the family-run rescue currently looks after over 100 dogs, a feral cat colony and birds. Based in Walkerville in the south of Johannesburg, the rescue recently ventured into Bryanston where it has around 20 dogs in foster care.

According to events coordinator Jaymee Gobetz, the rescue started off in Bryanston as a drop-off point where people could drop off donations but has since grown.

“The support from the [Sandton and Bryanston] community has been awesome so far.”

The dog rescue currently hosts adoption days on the first Saturday of every month at Poplar on Park in Riverclub.

“We had our first adoption day this month (November) and it was so successful, it was such a lovely day. We received five adoption applications and we are so excited to see it grow.”

Gobetz added that the team are also on the hunt for volunteers to join to help them care for the dogs as well as assist on adoption days. The rescue is also looking for any volunteers that can assist with home visits.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, children must however be accompanied by a parent.

“[Volunteering] gives people an opportunity to help in the most awesome way. Volunteers get to come and learn about the dogs, they get to learn about the rescue and have the best day with the dogs.

“Our volunteers get involved with the dogs and their lives and when they get adopted it is such an accomplishment, we all share and celebrate together.”

A New Hope Dog Rescue also has a number of events coming up aimed at raising funds to care for the dogs in its care and for the purchase of bakkie to help transport the animals.
