NALEDI MOKOENA: I am an ally, I love my people. Having the opportunity to experience it with my sister is also the best thing ever and being able to provide that support, I just love it.
The youth came out in their numbers to celebrate the power of community as Sandton Central was the host of the 33rd edition of Johannesburg Pride on October 29.
The Sandton Chronicle took to the streets to find out what pride means to them.
MARCIA MABELANE: While I may not be a queer person, I am definitely an ally. I am all for supporting and advocating for the LGBTQIA+ community and honestly, I believe that love is love.MMAPETJA LESHILO: Pride means that I get to be visible in a safe space. It means a lot to me to be here because my best friend, who was queer, passed away in 2020. We were playing on coming but then Covid-19 happened and they unfortunately passed away.THEMBA MOTILE: Pride means being authentically 100% who I am without caring what anyone says to me. I do not have to look over my shoulder and be worried if I am going to be judged. I feel that I can fully be myself around the community.
