Family business donates premises to Rays of Hope after closing doors

Long-time family business Tiffy Safety has closed its doors in Marlboro but its legacy continues to live on through the Rays of Hope community organisation.

Tiffy Safety, formerly a Marlboro-based family business, has recently donated its premises to Rays of Hope, enabling the organisation to continue making a lasting difference in the community.

The business donated the building that was once used to manufacture personal protection equipment to the NPO after it was forced to close its doors. Tiffy Safety’s closure was a consequence of Covid-19 and the lack of regulation around PPE gear.

According to Tiffy Safety’s Debbie Ellis, the family’s business had been part of the Marlboro community for 40 years.

“As the demographics of the area have changed over the last two decades, we realised that if we move from our building, it would very quickly become hijacked and overrun with illegal squatters.

“We have been following the work that ministry initiatives and churches close to our heart have been doing in Alex, with a view to handing over the building to them.”

She added that it was always the family’s intention to see the building be used as a beacon of light for the community.

Rays of Hope interim CEO John Shuttleworth said that the building will go a long way in assisting the organisation’s plans to open a primary school next year.

Rays of Hope has a long history of helping youth in the Alexandra community.

“[The school will] offer high-quality education and smaller classes that will prepare the children for the future world of work.

“We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation and we’re excited about using the space to partner with the community of Alexandra in even more ways,” said Shuttleworth.

Ellis added that the family is excited to be able to make this dream come true.

“We are therefore very excited to partner with Rays of Hope by providing the building for their dream to start a school for the children in the community. We see this as an answer to our prayers and are excited to see what the lord will accomplish in this place and through his people,” she said.
