Child Protection Hotline shares safety tips with Bryanston Primary learners

On a recent school visit, the Child Protection Hotline shared safety tips and advice with the Grade 1 to 3 learners at Bryanston Primary School.

Continuing its work to raise awareness around child safety, members of the Child Protection Hotline visited Bryanston Primary School on September 26.

Founder Danie van Loggerenberg hosted an interactive discussion with the Grade 1 to 3 learners about the importance of not talking to strangers, self-respect and respect for others.

“It is important for the learners to understand that suspicious people might come to them with ill intentions, whether that be to get close to the child or obtain information. When they are asked what their name is from someone that they do not know, they should immediately move away and look for help.”

He shared real-world examples and advice with the learners whereby suspecting individuals may try to bride them with gifts or money.

The learners were also encouraged to respect their peers, teachers and parents just as they would like to be respected.

“This means not using hurtful words, listening to parents and teachers and not taking things that do not belong to you,” he addressed the learners.

Van Loggerenberg also encouraged the learners to speak to their teachers and parents if they experience or witness anything suspicious that they may not feel okay about.
