IIE’s Varsity College Sandton goes all out for Heritage Day

Student of the IIE Varsity College based in Sandton expresses her excitement to learn more about African cultures during their Heritage Day celebration.

The student committees of the IIE’s Varsity College based in Sandton celebrated diversity and cultures by sharing, learning and experiencing each African tradition.

Participants took part in fun activities and interesting facts based on their knowledge of various cultures on September 23. Throughout the course of the day, some participants joined the celebration of Heritage Day and wore their traditional attire.
They received prizes for their outfits. Student committees who organised the activities were also awarded prizes based on their engagement with the participants.

“As a country, we are all going through so much now, however, we need to remember that we are so rich. Rich in culture and diversity and Heritage Day is a day to recognise and celebrate this. It is important for our youth to be taught and to love their heritage,” said the head of the campus, Kimberly Mclntyre.

Buhle Peters, corporate communication second-year student shared her experience of the day,” I enjoyed seeing everyone in their respective traditional clothing, I was inspired by the variety that each table presented and being able to learn about the different cultures including their food. The overall atmosphere of the day was exceptional, well-curated and well represented.”
