Emergency water shutdown set for Fourways, Bryanston and surrounds

Joburg Water has announced that an emergency water shutdown will affect residents in the Fourways, Bryanston and surrounding areas from midnight on September 28 as it continues work at the corner of William Nicol Drive and Witkoppen Road in Lonehill.

Johannesburg Water urges residents to take note of an emergency water shutdown set to affect the Fourways, Bryanston and surrounding areas from midnight on September 28.

According to a notice by the City utility, teams will conduct isolation of the Bryanston reservoir and tower to carry out major repairs on the main at the corner of William Nicol Drive and Witkoppen Road in Lonehill.

“The scope of the work includes the isolation of the network, draining of the excavation, welding of steel main, flushing of network and reinstatement of water.”

Affected areas include parts of Bryanston, Lyme Park, Rivonia, Fourways, Douglasdale, Lagaliesig, Witkoppen, Maroeladal, Craigavon, Dainfern, Kengies, Lonehill, Beverly, Paulshof, Pinelopes, Magaliesig View and Norscot.

Work on the main has been ongoing since September 24 since then residents have experienced inconsistent water supply.

Joburg Water added that mobile tankers would provide alternative water supply to affected areas and further updates would be provided to customers during the course of repairs.

“Customers are encouraged to store sufficient water for use during the duration of the outage. There is no estimated time for completion at this stage.”
