Sunshine Tour grows its schedule with Fortress Invitational

The Sunshine Tour is proud to announce the introduction of The Fortress Invitational, a new tournament set to be played at the Ebotse Links in Johannesburg from October 7 to 9.

Professional golfers are set to take on Ebotse Links as the Sunshine Tour has a new addition to its roster, The Fortress Invitational.

Announced at the Fortress Real Estate headquarters in Morningside on September 20, the invitational will see 120 professional players tee up from October 7 to 9.

According to Sunshine Tour marketing manager Mcebisi Mtshali, not only will the three-day inaugural event be televised but golfers would be fighting for the impressive R1.5 million prize pool.

Fortress Real Estate CEO Steven Brown added as one of the country’s leading logistics developers, Fortress prided itself in partnering with clients to power their growth.

The company will now have the opportunity to power growth in South African golf.

“Our belief is that The Fortress Invitational offers local players the opportunity to grow and succeed in their careers, with the possibility of representing South Africa internationally through the addition of this tournament to their schedule.

“As a brand, we look forward to hosting our clients and tenants, celebrating a truly superb and challenging course,” said Brown.

Also at the media launch, professional golfers Rupert Kaminski, Rhys Enoch and Michael Palmer noted their excitement for the upcoming tournament and experiences at Ebotse Links.

“[Ebotse] plays differently from other golf courses, a unique challenge but hopefully it will be firm and fast like it is supposed to be,” said Kaminski.

Designed by Peter Matkovich, Ebotse Links is located in Benoni and it is the only inland links course in the country. It has seven water holes and has been built to US PGA specifications.

“We played there [at Ebotse] in winter once before and you can get the proper experience because the ball runs forever. There is a lot of long grass there, not just water, but you can run it through the fairways into the long grass and start the hole again,” concluded Kaminski.
