Art comes to the people of Sandton

The introduction of spring had many locals leaving their homes to attend the annual FNB Art Fair that was held at the Sandton Convention Centre from September 2 to 4.

The FNB Art Fair held at the Sandton Convention Centre from September 2 to 4 had many art fanatics admiring the works of international and local artists.

The fair featured a lot of mind-boggling contemporary art, ranging from sculptures made out of iron and toothpicks to two-dimensional portraits of society through the lens of the creators.

“I am an artist myself and coming here today has given me the motivation and confidence to excel in my dreams of having my exhibition show once I complete my studies on visual art. This year’s art fair has been beyond spectacular,” said attendee Leonardo Sitoe.

A few individuals could not resist leaving the fair without grabbing their favourite art pieces.

Mbali Tshabalala, one of the artists who showcased a few of her current projects explained her style of creation.

“The creative direction of my visuals has been focusing on existential subject matters. Women within society can sometimes be subjected to a great deal of oppressive cultural restraints. I highlighted that topic in one of my artworks while appreciating the culture and what identity it carries for individuals. It’s an expression of dichotomy,” said Tshabalala.
