Vitality launches gym series

Discovery Vitality CEO Dinesh Govender announces their latest gym series challenge at Discovery Place with hopes of encouraging more people to become healthy and active.

During the official launch of the Vitality Gym Series at Discovery Place, gym enthusiasts, who were invited to the ceremony, all joined in on both the challenge and discussion.

The launch on August 26 started off with former South African rugby player Stefan Terblanche introducing guests to the Discovery Vitality CEO, Dinesh Govender, who shared various criteria of the series and the benefits of living an active life.

He stated that the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that individuals should at least reserve 150 to 300 minutes of their time exercising per week.

According to Govender, “The Vitality Gym Series is a fun way for people to kickstart their fitness regime as the weather warms up. However, the health benefits are our main objective of the series. The gym gives us the opportunity to enhance our fitness while having personal trainers assist you with your body goals.”

The discussion continued with Vitality ambassador and professional wheelchair tennis player Kgothatso Montjane sharing her ideal workout session for people who are just starting and for those who exercise regularly.

“I hope with more initiatives like this one, more people will realise that going to the gym is not entirely focused on looking good but also feeling good. You live longer by being mentally and physically active.”

The challenge which begins on September 3 will challenge individuals to do 20 push-ups, squats, sit-ups, walking planks and burpees within eight minutes. All Virgin Active (excluding collection branches) and Planet Fitness branches will host the challenge in their facility from 08:00 to 14:00. Winners of the challenges will stand a chance to win prizes on the day.c
