Athol entrepreneur highlights importance of women through board game

Tzvia Hermann aims to raise awareness on the important role that women play in society with the help of her new family-friendly board game.

Local businesswoman Tzvia Hermann swopped her entrepreneurial hat for a family-friendly game night with her new board game, Flipping Queens: A Royal South African Game.

According to Hermann, who is the founder of The Beautique Group in Athol, the board game was created during the lockdown and at the height of the horrific gender-based violence the country experienced.

“[The game was] created in the spirit of raising awareness of a women’s worth, and supporting and speaking up against domestic and gender-based violence.

“Although the game is light-hearted and fun, it sends a strong message of how valuable women are in our society as well as how men and women unite with a common goal of success,” said Hermann.

The objective of the game is to collect valuable African queens with kings. Once you have collected five queens or have collected queens to the value of 50 points, you have won.

Flipping Queens: A Royal South African Game is a light-hearted family-friendly game.

“Imagine a place in South Africa where queens are more valuable than kings, where there’s a KwaZulu queen who has a pet meerkat or where there is a king of all braais. Imagine having a tokoloshe you can set on an opponent or being able to scare away a tsotsi with your very own sangoma.

“Immerse yourself in a fun South African game that helps develop memory, strategy, bonds and times tables. Just be careful when playing the tokoloshe card as you might accidentally scare away all the players.”
