Child Protection Hotline equips Wendywood Primary learners to tackle bullies

The Child Protection Hotline recently visited Wendywood Primary School to discuss the importance of taking a stand against bullying and peer pressure.

As part of its continued efforts to raise awareness on the issue facing children today members of the Child Protection Hotline recently visited Wendywood Primary School.

Founder Danie van Loggerenberg spoke to the Grade 7 class about bullying and peer pressure, as well as the dangers of social media. Through these school talks, the team aims to provide learners with advice and real-world examples on how they can identify such issues and what action they should take.

“It is important for the learners to know that they are not alone when facing these challenges, there is always someone that they can talk to.”

With a strict no-bullying policy, Wendywood Primary School has always taken a proactive approach against bullying, always employing its learners to speak up if they witness anything. Having regular visits with the national hotline is another element of this.

The Child Protection Hotline also informed the learners about the community’s dedicated hotline, which is available at any time of the day by phone, Whatsapp or SMS.

“While the national hotline is effective, we always encourage the community to contact their dedicated local hotline as it allows us to fast- track the process and get the caller the help that they need and deserve.”
