Local youth brings thrift shopping to the Sandton community

A young fashion enthusiast from Sandton is making fashion more affordable to the community with her thrift shopping business.

Do you know what thrift shopping is? It means going shopping at a thrift store or market where you will find gently used items at discounted prices.

Young fashion enthusiast Gracia Senga is taking all of the ‘hard’ out of visiting these locations for the right pieces with her small business, More Grace Finds.

The small business carefully sources second-hand clothing items to create a collection that she sells.

According to Senga, thrifting is a great way for people to get their hands on clothing items that they may not normally be able to afford.

“The reality is that we are not all on the same level financially so we can’t all afford big brands but through thrifting, you can always find something [you like].

“The beauty of thrifting is that you get a good quality piece that could cost as little as R50 and people would think that you got it from an upmarket store.”

The young fashion enthusiast from Sandton discovered her passion for clothing when she was at university, and motivated by her parents and younger sister, Senga explored her creative side through a fashion blog.

More Grace Finds sources second hand fashion pieces to create the perfect outfit.

“Growing up my parents were quite fashionable, I get a lot of inspiration from them especially when it comes to African print. My parents are Congolese and Congolese people are known to wear brighter colours and outfits with unique patterns.”

The fashion blog turned into More Grace Finds and she hasn’t looked back since.

“One of the things I really love about thrifting is the uniqueness of the items that I find. It is really exciting to just find a unique piece that you won’t find anywhere else or find anyone else wearing.”
