What crimes should the community of Sandton be worried about?

The Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, released the fourth quarter of 2023/2024, and the first quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year crime statistics in Cape Town on August 30.

Sandton Police Station has ranked first, both nationally and provincially, for commercial crimes; as well as taking second and first rank – nationally and provincially – in the category of other serious crimes.

Commercial crimes include fraud (including attempted fraud), forgery, and uttering – which is presenting fraudulent documentation to dupe. Other serious crimes are ordinary instances of theft and resultant disputes where police are called in.

Sandton station has made 11 of the 19 top 30 crimes-reported-per-stations list, also ranking in the top 30 categories for community-reported serious crimes; common robbery; truck hijackings; kidnapping; property-related crime; theft of the motor vehicle and motorcycle; theft from out of-motor vehicles; all theft not mentioned elsewhere; shoplifting; and driving under the influence.
