EmPOWERment Summit 2024 in Sandton drives sustainable change in communities

Pride of Africa Johannesburg marked its 35th anniversary with the EmPOWERment Summit 2024 at Hotel Sky in Sandton.

This significant event on October 3, brought together LGBTQ+ individuals and allies for a day of enriching activities designed to inspire and equip participants with the tools necessary for driving sustainable change in their communities.

The summit featured a dynamic lineup of activities, including thought-provoking documentary screenings, engaging panel discussions, and workshops focusing on essential topics such as health, trans health, and the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities.

Kaye Ally, founder and spokesperson for Pride of Africa Johannesburg, expressed the organisation’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.

The documentary, Who I Am Not, served as a centerpiece of the event, offering an eye-opening exploration of identity through the lived experiences of intersex individuals.

The summit also facilitated critical conversations on LGBTQ+ health, addressing the existing gaps and advancements in queer and trans healthcare.

Developed in partnership with Google and other esteemed corporate allies, the EmPOWERment Summit aims to break barriers and shatter stereotypes, paving the way for a diverse and inclusive future.
