This decision has been taken by the property managers in response to the robbery at the Bryanston Jewellers store on September 30.

Akani Group chairperson Zamani Letjane added that an armed response unit, equipped with automatic weapons, will be stationed permanently near the precinct, to ensure rapid action against any suspected criminal activity, bolstering security.

“We are grateful to our response unit, which acted swiftly to prevent any loss of life and further damage to property during this incident,” Letjane said, adding, “the safety, and well-being, of our tenants and patrons is our top priority.”

Letjane closed by noting that incidents of crime and theft tend to spike at the festive season, with retail spaces often becoming prime targets for criminals, stating that police investigations into the robbery are currently underway.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that a jewellery store in Bryanston had been robbed at gunpoint by unknown gunmen. Urging anyone with information that can assist police with their investigation, Nevhuhulwi said that the police in Randburg were investigating a case of business robbery.

“A group of armed men stormed the store at about 14:00, smashing glass displays; and [they] stole jewellery. The suspects reportedly fired gun shots before fleeing the scene, using a red Nissan, and grey Hyundai sedan. No one has been reported injured from the shots, and the suspects are still at large.”
