“Even when you stop for a short time, keep your vehicle securely locked,” said Fihla. “And minimise distractions while driving, such as using your phone, or eating.”

Fihla closed with sage advice on not leaving valuables in plain sight.

“Keep your belongings out of sight, even if you’re only leaving your car for a short time,” Fihla concluded.

Sandton SAPS was one of the police stations that made the list of top 30 stations for crimes of: ‘Theft out of, or from, motor vehicles’, according to the first quarter police-recorded crime statistics.

Sandton station ranked 17th nationally, and eighth provincially, showing an 8.5% increase in this kind of crime in Sandton.
