JMPD and security company remove illegal settlers in Bryanston greenbelt

A successful clean-up operation aimed at removing unlawful dwellers along the greenbelt in Bryanston confirmed by JMPD.

JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla has confirmed that a collaborative operation to remove illegal settlers in Bryanston took place on August 19.

The greenbelt in Bryanston is cleared of illegal shacks.

A social media post by CAP security in a Bryanston forum group stated that CAP’s tactical and green team worked together with JMPD and members of the Bryanston community in clearing the green-belt stretch of the illegal dwellers.

“The operation focused on removing vagrants and confiscating their belongings, significantly improving the area’s safety,” the statement read.

Camp sites along the greenbelt have long raised concerns over public safety.

Fihla commented that the collaborative effort showed that JMPD remained committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and addressing illegal activities in the city. Fihla added the operation was not brought about by community members complaining about the greenbelt’s unlawful occupants.

“A total of 15 plastic structures were removed and individuals residing in these structures fled the area upon the arrival of authorities,” Fihla said. “The operation focused on Ballyclare Drive, targeting illegal structures situated on both sides of the stream.”
Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackleford was contacted for further feedback on August 21 and her response will be published once received.
