Greenside artist Wolf makes history with collaboration in Sandton

A transformative experience for Lulama Wolf in Sandton, allowing her to merge her artistic vision with a brand that values innovation and quality.

In a remarkable achievement for South African art, Lulama Wolf, a celebrated visual artist, has partnered with the prestigious Danish brand Bang & Olufsen.

Known globally for their iconic audio and home entertainment products, Bang & Olufsen has chosen Wolf as the first South African artist to contribute to their Art of A9 initiative. This series showcases limited-edition artworks on the distinctive Beosound A9 speaker.

Greenside-based Wolf’s journey as an artist began in her childhood when she was deeply inspired by her cultural heritage and a passion for music.

Her work, which fuses traditional African elements with modern themes, drew much attention in Sandton during Decorex South Africa.

“For this project, I drew inspiration from African photography, the rhythm of jazz music, and the stories embedded in my culture.”

She added her goal was to create pieces that evoke a sense of place and identity, bridging the gap between the past and the present.

As the first black female South African artist to participate in this initiative, Wolf sees this as a significant milestone for herself and the representation of her artistic style on a global stage.

“It is an honour to share my cultural perspective in such a meaningful way,” she said.

Wolf’s creative process for the project involved extensive research and immersion into the brand’s luxury identity.

She meticulously balanced her raw, organic style with the sleek, refined aesthetics of Bang & Olufsen’s products.

“I hope my artwork resonates with audiences both locally and globally. “I want people to feel connected to African traditions and see the beauty in our evolving cultural expressions.”

Looking ahead, Wolf is eager to continue exploring the intersections of traditional and contemporary art, with plans to expand into new mediums and large-scale installations.

Wolf concluded with advice for young aspiring artists. “Your unique perspective is your greatest asset. Always stay true to your artistic integrity and embrace collaboration as a way to open new doors.”
