Discovery reap the benefits of vitality day run

Local wellness and insurance business encourages employees to walk and talk for health’s sake.

Workplaces which cater to their employees’ holistic wellness are rare.

On an inspirational occasion on July 31, members of the Discovery building’s various teams participated in a 5km run or walk exercise.

Everyone looked ready to have a great day at the finish line.

Head of wellness at Vitality South Africa Dr Mosima Mabunda said they wanted to model to other organisations that employee wellness is important, by organising this staff run, where all their employees were encouraged to come and run.

Staff could walk, or run.

“What exercise does as a benefit is boost your mood and productivity. You get to do much more in a shorter time versus when your energies are low because you haven’t exercised – so it takes you longer to do a single thing,” Mabunda emphasised.

Mabunda encouraged the Sandton community to try and build time in their day for an exercise that they enjoy.

“This, ultimately, leads to profitability and bottom-line for the business. My encouragement is that if organisations don’t have the capacity, seek support and help to embed evidence-based well-being programmes into your organisation,” said Mabunda. “I promise you that you will reap the benefits of productivity.”

Discovery may be onto something with this wellness model.
