Feeding the soul to uplift the community

Ladles of Love is about more than merely providing meals, but about dignity, respect, and creating the kind of world we all want to live in.

In the heart of Wynberg, an extraordinary initiative is quietly transforming the lives of our youngest citizens.

Ladles of Love, a non-profit organisation, has dedicated itself to providing vital nutrition to small children at Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in impoverished communities.

Through their unwavering commitment, they are not only addressing hunger but also laying the foundation for a brighter future.

According to the Gauteng chief operation officer based in Wynberg, Candice Etberg, early childhood is a crucial period for cognitive, emotional, and physical development.

“Unfortunately, many children in disadvantaged communities start their lives with the odds stacked against them due to inadequate nutrition, and we recognise this urgent need and have stepped in to ensure these children receive the nourishment they need to grow and thrive.”

Etberg explained that as the warehouse is busy today, they are hosting volunteers from Estée Lauder to pack and prepare food that will be donated.

“Ladles of Love partners with local ECD centres to provide nutritious meals tailored to the needs of young children, and all the meals are carefully planned to ensure they meet all the essential dietary requirements.”

Danny Diliberlo, the founder of the organisation, said, “Ladles of Love aims to provide balanced meals that support healthy growth and development. Proper nutrition during early childhood can have long-lasting positive effects on a child’s health and learning capabilities.”

Diliberlo elaborated that the success of the organisation is built on the dedication of its volunteers and the support of the community and has grown so much from being a soup kitchen to what it is today.

“Local businesses, individuals, and other organisations contribute through donations and volunteering their time. This collective effort not only ensures the sustainability of the programme but also fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility.”

He explained that their vision is to expand the organisation, and they aim to reach more ECD centres and children in need by scaling their operations and enhancing their programme.

“Ladles of Love is more than just a meal programme; it is a beacon of hope for many families. By ensuring that the youngest members of our society receive proper nutrition, they are investing in a healthier, more prosperous future for all.”
