Varsity College Sandton shapes future professionals

Dress for Success event equips students with essential skills for entering the job market in Sandton.

The IIE’s Varsity College Sandton hosted its annual Dress for Success event, where they encouraged students to be work-ready.

The event was carried out by the career centre, and some of the highlights were the advice and tips given to the students on how they can be ready for the world of work.

According to Anto Kagisho, the communications person for the campus, the event was a success, and the 20 students who entered were judged on criteria such as the level of professionalism of their outfit, their ability to illustrate their understanding of being work-ready and presentable in an interview setting, and their self-confidence.

“Some great prizes were also up for grabs, and this year’s Dress for Success concluded with students taking professional images that can be used for their LinkedIn profiles.”

She said Thato Mazwe Madibo, a first-year student, came first, Megan Grace Farrell second, and Vassil Dimitrov Zarkov third.

Madibo said, “I did not anticipate that the day would turn out the way it did. It was an exciting experience, which I was open to as it highlighted my element of career pathing.”

He added that getting advice from Cherilee Engelbrecht, the career centre coordinator, on how to ensure that he is always confident in terms of how he presents himself was quite refreshing.

“Although I was a little bit nervous to walk the walk, I enjoyed the fact that we were able to show our own understanding of being future-ready.”
