Crawford principal returns from 18th Comrades Marathon

How Crawford Preparatory’s principal prepared for running his 18th Comrades’ Marathon.

Crawford International Sandton Preparatory principal Ryan Haigh proudly crossed the finish line of his 18th Comrades Marathon on June 9, in Pietermaritzburg.

This marked a significant achievement in his dedication to running this race over the past 29 years.

In preparation for the marathon, Haigh balanced his responsibilities, including running shorter distances during weekdays before school, typically around 10 kilometres.

On weekends, he extended his runs, covering distances of up to 35 kilometres.

“Additionally, Ryan undertook several extensive training sessions, such as a 60km run or the Easter 100, where he completed 100km over three days,” said Nadia Cooke, project coordinator at Crawford. “Congratulations to Ryan on this milestone, and may his accomplishment inspire us to pursue our own dreams with equal fervour and determination.”

Haigh, in conclusion, reflected on what he most loves about the Comrades Marathon.

“”I love the day, the spectators, the camaraderie, and the enthusiasm from all the people,” Haigh said. “Comrades is an incredibly special run. Once you’ve done it once, it’s in your blood and you can’t ignore the Comrades call.”
