Bryanston Primary celebrates 70 years with superheroes and time-capsules

Bryanston Primary School celebrated their 70th anniversary by burying time capsules and having fun together on the field.

Bryanston Primary School celebrated its 70th anniversary over two great school days.

Three-time capsules were buried on the school grounds on June 11. The capsules were filled with letters and drawings from the learners, photographs, laminated articles about the school, and a USB loaded with all the data the school could gather.

The school also included a laminated article by the Sandton Chronicle on the opening and naming of the Morne Marx Sports Arena at the school.

“We would like them to be opened in 2054,” said school principal Morne Marx. “I believe it’s important to get the right history through to the people who are going to come after us.”

Venom looks cool and the learners loved him.

Marx added a time capsule that was buried at the school 10 years ago could not be found.

“According to people who were here then, there was a tree stump, and the time capsule would have been underneath it,” Marx said. “We brought in a metal detector because it was in a metal box. We went all the way down three metres, and a metre out, and we unfortunately couldn’t find it.”

The English subject specialist Tamlyn Jackson read an extract from a letter written by Reabetswe Moncho (11) in Grade 5, who painted a beautiful vision for the school where she wrote:

‘I hope there are time machines in the future, so you can get home in one second. I hope there are science lessons where you can do more experiments – like elephant toothpaste explosions, and how to make an egg healthy – even when it’s expired.’

The school’s official 70th birthday was celebrated on June 12, with a concert in the school hall and entertainment on the field. The entertainment brought so much joy and elation to all the learners, and many staff members as well.

Spider-Man defies gravity.

The Blueberry Beacon restaurant sponsored the school with entertainment on the field. This comprised costumed members of Paw Patrol, The Grinch, Spider-Man, Venom, and the main attraction: Bumblebee, from the Transformers franchise. The assortment of characters pranced around the field, etching smiles on all the young faces.

Liam Solomon, Tayyibah Deveduth and Sienna Marriday address the school in character as a family during the school concert.

Beyond the excitement and fun experienced by learners on the day, the highlight of the event was when all the learners sang Happy Birthday for the school’s milestone.
