Sandton SPCA welcomes your assistance

The Sandton SPCA has issued a note of gratitude to all its supporters over the past 19 months.

Over half a million in rands for animals has been raised by the Sandton SPCA’s (SSPCA) popular neighbourhood charity bookshop over the past 19 months.

The Sandton SPCA Book Nook shared its success on March 24, celebrating how extremely popular with the community the not-for-profit established has been in crafting a solid base of regular customers who love the prices and tranquillity of the homely shop.

In imploring some support from the wider collective Sandton community, Sandton SPCA general manager Stephen Maila said transparently that it costs R800 000 monthly to run the SPCA.

An inside glimpse at the world of wonder that’s Sandton SPCA’s Book Nook in Gallo Manor.

He said greater funding and support would allow the SPCA to achieve more sterilisation drives, outreach and education programmes, as well as have more inspectors and vehicles operational in the communities which they serve.

“The income generated by our three shops cannot be underestimated,” Maila motivated. “Please support us by buying, donating or volunteering.”

The Book Nook has operated as a satellite outlet in the Morning Glen Mall in Gallo Manor to the main charity and book shop at the Sandton SPCA in Marlboro Gardens since August 2022.

“We are heavily reliant on the public for good quality donations and of course, for buying their books at our bookshops,” said Mailia. “This gross amount– before rent and utilities – raised by the Book Nook, is much needed. You can imagine how hard the volunteers must work to sell so many books, as some are only R10, to reach this amount.”

The Sandton SPCA is an NPO and receives no government funding.

The Book Nook is now open Tuesdays to Saturdays and the SSPCA onsite shops are open Mondays to Saturdays.
