Meet: A well-behaved pet in Bryanston

Jackie encourages pet owners to give their pets good food and limited treats.

Venus is a three-year-old Jack Russell who is named after her star sign.
She is the best friend of Bryanston resident Jackie Smith.
Smith said they have been best friends for three years and Venus loves travelling and has travelled to almost every province in South Africa.

“We lost our old Jack Russell who was 11 and a half years old due to cancer. She died two months after we got back from the USA with her, so the house was lonely and we were so used to having a Jack Russell with us.”
She added a friend called her and her husband, letting them know that they have Jack Russell puppies and they adopted Venus.

“Venus is a typical teenager who sleeps late but when we are ready to go to breakfast at Del Fornos Epsom Downs, she is ready to bark at her lead. And once we get home, she looks for the lizards on the walls.”
Smith said Venus napped at about 13:00 and takes her walks every day at 17:00 around their complex, then enjoys a midnight snack before bed at 22:00.

“She likes catching lizards, watching TV, and going on walks, and we always laugh at her because of how she was on her first time on the beach. She was the happiest dog to touch the sand for the first time.”

She said Venus expressed her love by jumping on one’s lap and making herself comfortable.

“One of her special talents or tricks is that she behaves extremely well at restaurants. She sits on her chair with her blanket and waits for food. She ‘moans’ at people if they do not say hello to her.”
