Vox Pop: Are you registered to vote this year?

Locals in Sandton and Northern Johannesburg were asked what outcome they were keen to see come out of this year’s election proceedings.

With elections on the horizon for South Africa, Johannesburg North community members were stopped and asked if they had registered to vote – as well as what they were optimistic to see come out of the upcoming elections.

Here is what they had to say:

Craig Brewer: I’ve always been registered to vote, and I intend to vote again when the election is announced. I’m hoping [to see] greater participation from younger people. I think that everyone has seen that the present government hasn’t necessarily delivered, and I think we may have a coalition government coming in; hopefully they can deliver to everyone.
Lisa Wade: Yes, I am registered to vote, and I will definitely be voting on the day. I’m hoping to see some stability, and some positive change moving forward. I think there have been some good changes, and I’m hoping that the people who get in to govern will maintain that.
Courtney Hodgson: Yes, I am registered. [I’d like to see] more youth driving initiatives, youth taking a stand. I think that the youth is a very powerful entity.
Elizabeth Vass: I still need to register, though. In the past, I used to vote for the ANC. But, seriously, we’re going downhill. This year I need to see a lot of competition. I was talking about it last night with my partner, and I strongly feel that they really need to get competition in order for South Africa to get back to where we used to be. We’re tired of load-shedding, we’re tired of all these roads that aren’t properly taken care of.
Natalie Chlup: Of course. I will be grateful to see any positive change. The highlight of last year was seeing how united our country was; it would be great to feel that energy again in our country.
