Sandton Tigers Cricket Club ready for new year

Sandton Tigers cricket club prepares for 2024 leagues.

The year behind us ended on a bright note for the Sandton Tigers Cricket Club, who were proud recipients of new bats, balls, duffle bags, bat covers and bails for their development and cubs’ teams on December 3 2023.

The club’s chairman and director Jeremy Meiring expressed gratitude for their partnership with Pay It Forward Jozi, which helps the club with donations.

“We are extremely fortunate to have corporates sponsoring the club,” said Meiring. “As the club is an NPO, charging members a minimum membership fee just doesn’t cover everything.”

Meiring said cricket was an expensive sport and expressed the role played by the club in crafting inclusivity so that even players who weren’t affluent could enjoy participating.

“It’s the club’s mission to not leave anyone behind. Sponsorships, donations or any act of goodwill will always be welcome, especially since we run a development programme taking the game to the previously disadvantaged.”

Furthermore, the club celebrated a first on December 3 – Sandton Tigers Cricket Club’s SA4 players qualified for the Macrocomm T20 Knockout Competition. However, Meiring was weary of singling out players ahead of the 2024 cricket season.

“As a collective, we all work very hard on and off the field. It’s going to be unfair to single out individuals. We will leave that for the end of the season and our awards evening.”
