Montrose Primary orientates Grade 1s

Montrose Primary took the incoming Grade 1 learners and their parents through an orientation process before schools opened officially.

Montrose Primary School in Parkmore opened its doors for the new Grade 1 class of 2024 a day early, on January 16, to orientate the new learners and their parents before the official start of school.

Learners and parents were greeted in the school hall by principal Sonette van Loggerenberg who allocated learners to their classrooms for the year.

Montrose Primary School headmistress Sonette van Loggerenberg is ready to conquer 2024 with her new intake of Grade 1 learners.

Van Loggerenberg said having orientation at the school on the day before term began, helped begin the process of familiarising new learners with the school.

“Several schools do their orientation day at the end of the previous year,” Van Loggerenberg said. “When you do it the day before school, you take out that anxiety of parents who know exactly where their children are going and after a holiday, the learners have forgotten everything that everyone said last year. So now it’s still fresh in their memories.”
