Awards celebrate Sandton’s heroes for children

Sandton locals receive awards for their work done in service of the children of Sandton.

The National Centre for Child Protection (NCCP) in partnership with Mazi Asset Management honoured Sandton’s Heroes for Children with awards at an event held on the morning of December 13.

Grace Maema from the City of Johannesburg’s Department of Health, as well as Jessica Louwrens and Lizet Pereira Rosen from the SA Women Fight Back campaign, were honoured as recipients of the Heroes for Children awards.

“I didn’t expect this,” said an elated Maema. “It’s nice to be appreciated.”

“It’s such an honour,” Rosen added.

Louwrens thanked SA Women Fight Back for arranging for women soldiers to appear in court with her for the case against the person who oppressed her.

The Sandton Heroes for Children awards are a platform for acknowledging community members whose work positively impacts the livelihood and well-being of children across Sandton.

The event concluded on a beautiful note, with Mazi and cycling team Bazala handing over a cheque of R100 000 to the NCCP. The Bazala cycling team raised the money from participating in both the 947 Ride Joburg event on November 19, and the Double Century hosted in the Western Cape on November 25.
