Gauteng region team gear up for the USSA 2023 tournament

USSA is considered the official unified national umbrella sports structure for the regulation, organisation and coordination of student sports activities at regional, provincial and national levels in the tertiary education sector of South Africa.

The IIE’s Varsity College and IIE MSA’s men and ladies football teams will be competing against 20 universities from around SA in the upcoming University Sports South Africa (USSA) Football Tournament.

According to Anto Kagisho, the tournament will be held at the University of the Western Cape and will be co-hosted with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

“The two teams consist of students from the IIE’s Varsity College’s Gauteng campuses, the IIE MSA, the IIE VEGA, and the IIE’s Rosebank College Braamfontein.”

Defender Gabriella Maria Sparaco, a first-year IIE Bachelor of Education in Intermediate Phase Teaching student and footballer at Varsity College Sandton said, “With all the hours invested in preparing for this tournament, we are competing in USSA with a winning spirit.”

Sparaco adds that they have been carefully selected to represent the region, and the team is excited to show the rest of the university teams what the Gauteng region is made of.

She concluded that as a team, they are looking forward to USSA, as this will also give them the boost, they need to get their teams into the Stream A-League.
