My Pet and I – Nina and Popcorn Pearse

Nina Pearse happily shares her lovely Popcorn.

Nina Pearse, who admittedly loves cats, happily shares the story of how she came to adopt Popcorn in July 2018 as a cat person.

“We went to a shelter to go play with the cats, and she was there as a little rescue dog,” Pearse said. “She was five weeks old; she fit in the palm of our hand, like a little piece of popcorn.”

Popcorn, who is now five years old in human years, is described by Pearse as being a Maltese mixed breed, and a wonderful pet companion to keep.

“She does whatever I ask her,” said Pearse. “Popcorn is an incredibly friendly, soft, and intelligent dog – who is very obedient.”

Popcorn owns a fur coat and enjoys opportunities to be outdoors.

“She just loves to walk; f you say the name ‘Walker’, her ears pop up,” said Pearse. “So, park, anywhere outside – she loves to run around.”

As with most other pets, Popcorn enjoys snacks and treats brought to her by Pearse.

“We give her ostrich tendons that we get at our favourite pet store,” said Pearse. “They have these dried-out tendons of ostrich, and then she chews on that; she loves that.”

The Sandton Chronicle met Pearse and Popcorn at Montrose Primary, where Popcorn had come out in support of her favourite team.

“She’s a Sandton resident and a Grayston supporter,” Pearse said of Popcorn. “Hence, the blue and red ribbons [on her lead].”
